Why Magento 2.4.6 is the floor
The requirement tracks Adobe’s official support schedule: the extension is built for the Magento versions Adobe actively supports, so every store running it is on a platform Adobe actively patches and supports, secure and PCI-eligible, with current APIs. A supported Magento is a safer and faster home for your customer data, and it is what lets the integration stay robust release after release.
You do not need to chase the newest version. Staying on a supported release (2.4.6 or later) and applying Adobe’s official security patches is a fully supported path; 2.4.8 and 2.4.9 offer the longest runway under Adobe’s software lifecycle policy (three years of standard support per version, plus an optional extended year). If your store runs an older Magento, the classic ebizmarts Mailchimp extension continues to serve it.

OpenMage / Magento 1
This extension is for Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce only. OpenMage and Magento 1 are not supported.
Only one Mailchimp extension at a time
If you used the previous ebizmarts Mailchimp extension, the two do not run at the same time. This extension checks one thing: the old extension’s own Enabled setting. Switch the old one off (the migration flow does this for you) and syncing starts. Uninstalling the old extension is never required; its code and data can stay in place.
