When a shopper fills a cart and leaves, the extension sends that cart to Mailchimp on its own. Mailchimp can then email them a reminder, and one click brings them back to their cart, ready to check out. Everything in that sentence is the extension’s own machinery: it resolves who the shopper is, watches the cart, and moves it to Mailchimp in near real time.
Cart recovery starts the moment setup is done: no waiting for a full sync. Every new abandoned cart is captured in real time.
How it works, end to end
- A shopper adds items and leaves. Logged in or guest, the extension knows whose cart it is: its Pulse engine resolves identity the moment an email is typed anywhere on your store.
- The Boost lane sends the cart to Mailchimp within the minute, with the exact totals the shopper saw. If the products or the customer are not in Mailchimp yet, they go first, in the same pass, automatically.
- Mailchimp marks it abandoned and your recovery automation kicks in.
- The shopper clicks the reminder email: their cart reloads and they land on checkout.
- If they buy, Mailchimp swaps the abandoned cart for a completed order and credits the recovery campaign.
If the shopper empties their cart first, the extension pulls it back out of Mailchimp so no reminder goes out for items they dropped.
Reaching guest shoppers
Mailchimp needs an email to send a reminder. Logged-in customers already have one on the cart. For guests, the extension grabs the email the moment they type it at checkout, even before they finish, when they sign up to your newsletter, when they fill in any email box on your store, or when they arrive from a campaign link.
Mailchimp needs an email to send a reminder, and the extension gives it every chance to catch one: the moment a guest types their email at checkout, signs up to your newsletter, fills in any email box on your store, or arrives from a campaign link, their cart becomes recoverable. A guest who never shares an email anywhere cannot be reminded, but the net is wide.
The recovery link is safe to share
Clicking a recovery link restores the cart but does not log the shopper in: guests enter their email at checkout. For registered customers the link leads to the login page first; the cart restores after they sign in. Either way, a forwarded email never hands anyone else access to an account or a cart.
Watch it pay off
The Dashboard keeps score for you: carts captured, carts brought back, and the revenue they turned into. Open Marketing → Intuit Mailchimp → Dashboard and the abandoned-carts panel shows your recovery rate at a glance.

Test it before you rely on it
- Open your store in a private/incognito window.
- Add a product, go to checkout, and enter a real email, but don’t finish buying.
- Close the tab and wait a minute or two for cron.
- In Mailchimp, find that contact under Audience → Manage contacts: you should see the abandoned cart, and your automation should queue the email.
- Click the link in the email: your cart reloads. Complete checkout, and the cart becomes a completed order in Mailchimp.
Automations often wait an hour before the first email. Set the delay to the minimum while testing, then restore it.
